Teachers are no strangers to hard work... long hours, difficult conditions, high expectations...
The latest stress statistics show that stress causes double the number of days off from school than illness, and that the average time taken off for stress is 27 days. 84% say that work-related stress impacts their health negatively and over 70% of teachers say they are considering leaving the profession because of stress.
Mind With Heart are committed to supporting the mental health and well being of teachers. Though we cannot reduce working hours or workload, we can help teachers find ways to relax, manage anxiety and build emotional resilience by training in mindfulness and compassion.
Mindfulness and compassion for staff wellbeing
We have designed a new course called Reconnected to do just this, using evidence-based tools to help teachers reduce stress and increase wellbeing through mindfulness and compassion. In 2016, we trialled this new course in four schools, supported by Teachers Health Fund.
We are continuing to pilot Reconnected as a health and wellbeing programme in Australia in 2017, hoping to work with hundreds more teachers.
